About Me

I’m Sunny Khangura

Nurse Practitioner and CEO of The Teaching NP

I teach NP students, new NP grads, and seasoned NPs from across Canada and the U.S., all with one goal in mind: to empower Nurse Practitioners with the foundational clinical skills they need to thrive. Creating innovative and practical education resources for NP students and practicing NPs is my mission. Whether it’s preparing for OSCE exams, gaining confidence and building skills for clinical practice, I’m here to help you reach your fullest potential as a Nurse Practitioner.

Helping NPs thrive, one skill at a time.

Balancing Teaching, Motherhood, and Neurosurgery!

When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me working as a Neurosurgery NP where I work with patients who have undergone a myriad of surgical interventions for various neurological conditions. Previous to this, I worked in primary care, palliative care, mental health and addictions, as well as various leadership roles.

I’m also a mom to three active girls who are always on the go! If I’m not doing something active with my family then you’ll likely catch me at the gym, listening to audiobooks or enjoying sushi!

Filling the gaps in NP education

TheTeachingNP is more than just another educational platform

It’s a community built on the values of trust, integrity, and real-world expertise.

TheTeachingNP was created to provide NP students and practicing NPs the practical clinical skills and confidence to become self motivated, resourceful and highly efficient nurse practitioners. From gathering patient histories to developing management plans on top of navigating the complexities of primary care, it can be so challenging when first starting out. So I decided to create resources for exactly this!

By creating courses focused on advanced health assessment and physical exams, history taking, diagnostics, prescribing, developing patient management plans and more, I have been able to teach NPs the skills necessary to enter practice with greater confidence, knowledge and efficiency!

And in case you didn't know, I also offer resources to support OSCE preparation to ensure you get that passing exam mark on the first attempt!

The TeachingNP is

built on a foundation of trust, support, and community

If you’re a NP student preparing for clinical placements or OSCEs, a new NP grad entering practice or a seasoned NP looking for a refresher on the foundational clinical skills, then you’re in the right place. Having taught students from across Canada and the United States, establishing your foundational clinical skills are pivotal to your growth. Through these courses, you’ll find step by step guidance necessary to set the groundwork of your clinical journey.

My mission is to create a space where NP students and grads can grow and succeed
– not just in exams, but in real-life clinical practice. This includes learning how to balance your professional obligations and doing work that is meaningful, impactful and brings you joy!

I recognize many of you are busy with balancing personal life,

family and work all while trying to accomplish your goal of becoming a NP.

Too often I hear students say they feel lost entering the clinical setting and lack the structured guidance to succeed in clinical practice.

I’ve developed comprehensive courses and resources that teach you how to:

  • Gather patient histories using a systematic approach
  • Develop individualized medical management plans in an organized method
  • Counsel and provide patient education in language the patient can understand
  • Perform step by step physical exams where you actually learn how to perform the assessments, identify landmarks and understand how to perform special tests with confidence
  • Identify differential diagnoses and order appropriate work up
  • Understand the review of systems
  • Recognize how to identify acute presentations warranting referral to the emergency department
  • Understand how to conduct a patient visit from start to finish

This is why I created structured courses and templates to save you time and allow you to focus on exactly what you need to know to excel in the clinical setting.

My Motivation

My NP students are my "why"

I can still remember my days as an NP student. I recall when the teaching styles didn’t meet my learning needs resulting in me feeling overwhelmed and over my head. This resulted in me creating my own resources and teaching myself skills such as gathering a patient history, identifying differential diagnoses, developing management plans and learning physical exams.

As difficult as this was, this experience allowed me to fully understand what NP students needed from a practical skills perspective. This is what continues to inspire me in supporting NP students and create clinical resources that can be practically incorporated into daily clinical practice!
